Vice-President, Speaker and Six Cabinet Ministers attend the 72nd Independence Day Reception

Vice-President Vincent Meriton; Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon; Speaker of the National Assembly Nicholas Prea; Leader of the Government Business, Charles De Commarmond, Minister for Health Jean-Paul Adam; Minister for Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning Maurice Loustau-Lalanne; Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture Charles Bastienne; Minister for Employment, Immigration and Civil Status Myriam Télémaque; Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Didier Dogley and Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change Wallace Cosgrow were among the 250 guests that attended the 72nd Independence Day Reception hosted by the High Commission of India at the Kempinski Hotel & Resorts.

The colourful ceremony began with the playing of the National Anthems of India and Seychelles. In his welcome address by the High Commissioner of India, Dr Ausaf Sayeed said: "India’s bilateral relations with Seychelles in the modern context go back to historical times. As maritime neighbours both countries have withstood numerous global challenges together, ranging from the threat of climate change to the menace of piracy.

Our traditional linkages have now culminated into a mutually beneficial partnership. There is a geostrategic convergence between the two countries for nurturing a climate of peace and stability in our oceanic space to ensure sustainable development and safeguard the future of our populations."

Mr Jean Paul Adam, Minister of Health in his address lauded the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and particularly applauded the High Commission officials for their sincerity in boosting the relations.

The programme ended with a cultural performance, followed by the screening of the video clips of the State Visit of President Danny Faure to India in June 2018.
