Government of India donates 10 light vehicles to Seychelles People's Defence Forces (SPDF)

The Government of India donated ten light vehicles to Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) during a ceremony organized at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base at Ile Perseverance on 28 November 2017. The ten vehicles comprise four TATA Safari Storme and six TATA Zest Cars, worth around USD 183,000/-.

The Indian High Commissioner Dr Ausaf Sayeed handed over the keys of the vehicles to the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (Dy. CDF) Col Clifford Roseline during this ceremony

Speaking at the occasion Dr Sayeed said that India and Seychelles share a robust relationship in defence and security. The bonds date back to the 1980s and have been nurtured over the years. He said; "We value our strong and special relationship with Seychelles based on shared values and mutual trust. We look forward to further strengthening the enduring partnership."

Col. Roseline thanked the Indian High Commissioner for the valuable gift and remarked that SPDF has always benefitted from the aid provided by the Government of India and the gifted vehicles will be used effectively and efficiently. He said that Indian Government has in the past provided SPDF with three ships, a Dornier aircraft and military vehicles other than assistance in various other fields.

The Indian High Commission in Seychelles under the aegis of the Government of India provides training and assistance to the SPDF. A large number of the SPDF personnel have been trained in various training institutions of the Indian Armed Forces. Indian Naval Ships regularly visit the waters of Seychelles for EEZ Surveillance and joint exercises, including the recent visit of INS Mumbai during this month, which did Anti-Narcotics and Surveillance Patrolling in Seychelles’ EEZ. The Government of India has also pledged a second Dornier Maritime Surveillance aircraft to SPDF which is expected to be handed over in early 2018.
