83rd edition of Know India Programme (KIP)

Introduction

KIP is an engagement program initiated by the Government of India to introduce Indian-origin youth aged 21-35 from around the world to India’s diverse facets, including its culture, heritage, governance, and achievements. The program has been running since 2003-04 and aims to foster Indo-global relations and cultural understanding.

Main Elements of the Program

Participants will:

  • Attend presentations on India’s history, polity, economy, culture, and achievements in sectors like science, technology, and tourism.​
  • Visit key democratic institutions such as Parliament, Election Commission, and Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • Engage with India’s cultural heritage through exposure to Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian classical music, and dance.
  • Learn about government schemes like Skill India, Digital India, and Startup India.
  • Tour industrial sites, scientific research institutes, and cultural destinations across different states.​

Program Arrangements

  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) covers local hospitality, airport transfers, and internal transportation during the program.
  • Participants will receive return air tickets arranged by Indian Missions/Posts abroad after paying 10% of the airfare.
  • A gratis visa will be issued by the Indian Missions/Posts, contingent upon submission of necessary documents, health insurance, and medical fitness certificates.​

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 21-35 years as of the program start date.
  • Origin: Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), with proof via OCI/PIO cards or attestations from Indian authorities. If proof is unavailable, an attested written undertaking of Indian origin is required.
  • Previous Participation: Those who have previously participated in KIP or other MEA-funded Indian government programs are ineligible.
  • Educational Qualification: Minimum graduation from a recognized university; students pursuing graduation are ineligible.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English, with proficiency in reading and speaking.
  • Additional Preference: Those who have not visited India before will be given preference.

Duration

The program lasts approximately three weeks, including international travel.

Insurance and Medical Requirements

  • Participants must have valid international travel and medical insurance covering their entire stay.
  • A medical fitness report/certificate confirming their ability to undertake long-distance travel is mandatory.

Post-Participation Requirement

Participants must submit a detailed Program Report (750–1000 words) reflecting on their experience, learnings, and insights gained about India. Certificates are issued after submission and approval of this report.
